A strong performance by Patna Pirates that saw them outscore Tamil Thalaivas in both, raid and tackle points, took them to a 45-27 victory at the Arena by TransStadia in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Captain Pardeep Narwal and Deepak Narwal both managed Super 10s on the night while young Manjeet scored 8 vital points including 3 tackle points.

Patna Pirates collected seven of the first eight points scored in the match through their raiding trio of Pardeep Narwal, Deepak Narwal and Manjeet. This early surge reduced Tamil Thalaivas to two men on the mat and, once captain Ajay Thakur got Dashed out by Vikas Kale, the last Tamil Thalaivas player, D. Pradap, had to give a surrender raid to Pardeep Narwal. This early All-Out gave Patna Pirates a 9-point lead.

Tamil Thalaivas came back strongly from there to first tackle Pardeep Narwal before a 2-point raid from Ajay Thakur brought Patna Pirates down to two men soon after. Deepak Narwal tried hard to get his side back from there but he was taken down by Tamil Thalaivas in the 14th minute to reduce the lead down to 3 points at 14-11.

Tamil Thalaivas picked up the next 2 points to make it a one-point-game but a successful raid from Deepak Narwal just before the halftime whistle helped Patna Pirates take their lead to 3 points going into the break.

A two-point raid by substitute Surjeet Singh started things of well for Tamil Thalaivas in the second half. But the Patna Pirates’ raiders managed to keep Tamil Thalaivas from taking the lead. A two-point raid from Deepak Narwal followed by Manjeet’s successful raid brought Tamil Thalaivas down to three men on the mat.

With the Super Tackle on, the Patna Pirates raiders took no chances and kept picking up the Tamil Thalaivas defenders one at a time. Jasvir Singh and Surjeet Singh kept the fight going for Tamil Thalaivas for a while but the All-Out was finally inflicted on Tamil Thalaivas in the 11th minute with a successful tackle on Jasvir to open up a seven-point lead for Patna Pirates.
