Titles get remembered, but wins are what actually tell you how good a team has been over 12 seasons of Pro Kabaddi. A trophy can come from one hot fortnight. A win column that keeps growing year after year means a franchise has kept finding raiders, kept rebuilding its defence and kept turning up in tight finishes. That is a much harder thing to do. So here are the five teams with the most wins in PKL history.

1. Patna Pirates (133 wins)

Patna Pirates sit at the top of the pile with 133 wins from 251 matches, and no other team is close. They are also the only franchise to have won three PKL titles, taking Seasons 3, 4 and 5 in a row. That hat-trick is still the benchmark for sustained success in the league, and it is the main reason their win count runs so far ahead of everyone else.

The Pirates have played more matches than any other team, which helps, but their strike rate holds up too. Just under 53 per cent of their games have ended in a win, the best figure among all 12 teams. Season 12 showed the same pattern in a new form. Patna produced both the season's leading raider and its leading defender, which is a rare double for one squad.

That double came from two current players. Ayan Lohchab won the Green Sleeve as the top raider of Season 12 with 316 raid points from 22 matches, including 16 Super 10s, the most by any raider that season. At the other end, Navdeep was named Defender of the Season with 73 tackle points and six High 5s from 21 matches, finishing top of the tackle points chart. Ankit Jaglan captains the side, and his 196 tackle points from 70 games make him the other half of a defence that Patna have built around.

2. U Mumba (126 wins)

U Mumba are second with 126 wins from 239 matches. They were the first great team of the league, reaching the final in each of the first three seasons and winning the title in Season 2. Those early years gave them a head start in the win column that they have held on to ever since, even through some quieter campaigns in the middle seasons.

Their overall record is close to Patna's. U Mumba have won just under 53 per cent of their matches, and only Patna and Haryana Steelers can better it. What stands out about U Mumba is how rarely they have had a truly poor run. They have stayed in the middle of the table or better for most of their history, and in Season 12 they came through to the Play-In stage again.

The leadership belongs to Sunil Kumar, who is the most successful captain in PKL history. That is a stat worth pausing on, because captaincy in kabaddi means holding a defence together for 40 minutes, and Sunil has done it longer than anyone. In attack, Ajit Chouhan has become U Mumba's main raider, picking up seven Super 10s in 15 matches in Season 12. Iran's Amirmohammad Zafardanesh and Mohammad Ghorbani give the side the all-rounder cover that has become a U Mumba habit.

3. Puneri Paltan (119 wins)

Puneri Paltan are third with 119 wins from 242 matches. For a long time Pune were the team that kept threatening without delivering, reaching the Season 9 final and losing it before finally winning the title in Season 10. They then reached the final again in Season 12, which makes them one of the most consistent sides of the recent era.

Pune's win total says something slightly different from Patna's or U Mumba's. Their overall win rate sits at around 49 per cent, lower than the two teams above them, because a lot of their early seasons were spent finding a settled squad. Almost all of their best years have come recently, which means their win column is climbing faster than most right now.

The current side is built around homegrown Maharashtra talent. Aslam Inamdar captains the team as an all-rounder with 537 raid points and 84 tackle points in his career, and he is the player Pune trusts in the closing minutes. Aditya Shinde has become the main raider, scoring 159 raid points with eight Super 10s in 18 matches in Season 12. In defence, Gaurav Khatri finished fifth on the tackle points chart in Season 12 with 62 points and six High 5s from 19 matches. Pankaj Mohite and Mohit Goyat give the raiding unit depth.

4. Jaipur Pink Panthers (118 wins)

Jaipur Pink Panthers are fourth on 118 wins from 238 matches, just one behind Puneri Paltan. They won the very first PKL season and then waited eight years for a second title, which arrived in Season 9. Two trophies from 12 seasons put them level with Dabang Delhi K.C. and behind only Patna in the titles column.

Look at the numbers a little closer and Jaipur come out slightly ahead of Pune on win percentage, at close to 50 per cent from four fewer matches. It is a reminder that the raw win count and the win rate do not always tell the same story. Jaipur's problem has been the gaps between their good seasons rather than the quality of their best ones.

Nitin Rawal leads the current side, an experienced all-rounder with 144 raid points and 181 tackle points from 120 games. The main raiding threat is Nitin Kumar Dhankhar, who scored 155 raid points with 10 Super 10s in just 15 matches in Season 12, one of the better returns per game in the league. Iran's Ali Samadi supports him in attack, while Reza Mirbagheri and Aryan Kumar anchor the defence.

5. Dabang Delhi K.C. (112 wins)

Dabang Delhi K.C. complete the top five with 112 wins from 239 matches. Their story is the clearest example of why wins alone do not tell you everything. Delhi spent the first six seasons as one of the weakest sides in the league, then became one of the strongest. They reached the Season 7 final, won the title in Season 8, and won it again in Season 12 by beating Puneri Paltan 31-28 in Delhi.

That Season 12 final made Delhi the first home team since U Mumba in Season 2 to lift the trophy in front of their own crowd. It also gave them a second title, drawing them level with Jaipur. Their overall win rate is the lowest in this top five at around 47 per cent, but almost all of that damage was done in the early seasons. Judged only on the last six years, no team has a better claim to being the most improved in PKL.

Fazel Atrachali is the anchor. The Iranian defender was named Most Valuable Player of Season 12, scoring 52 tackle points and making the tackle that sealed the final, and he is the most successful foreign player in PKL history. Ashu Malik captains the side and has 882 raid points from 105 games, having won the Green Sleeve in Season 10 with 276 raid points. Neeraj Narwal and Ajinkya Pawar shared the raiding load in the final, while Fazel Atrachali, Saurabh Nandal and Surjeet Singh give Delhi one of the deepest defensive units in the league.

What the win column tells us about PKL

The five teams here are all from the original eight franchises, and that matters. Gujarat Giants, Haryana Steelers, Tamil Thalaivas and UP Yoddhas joined in Season 5, so they have played roughly 60 fewer matches and simply have not had the chance to catch up. Haryana Steelers are a good example. Their 95 wins from 180 matches give them a win rate of nearly 53 per cent, better than three of the teams in this top five, but their total sits well down the list.

The other thing the numbers show is that titles and wins do not move together. Puneri Paltan have more wins than Jaipur Pink Panthers but one less title. Dabang Delhi K.C. have the fewest wins in this five but two trophies, both won in the last five seasons. Bengaluru Bulls, sitting sixth on 107 wins from 242 matches, have only one title to show for a long and mostly competitive history. Winning in the league phase and winning a knockout are two different skills, and very few teams have managed both for long.
