U.P. Yoddha ended their home leg on a winning note after a 25-23 victory over Telugu Titans at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday. It was the only win of their home leg after losing four and drawing one of their previous five matches at home. At the heart of the victory was the league’s most expensive player Nitin Tomar.

The Lucknow captain had a quiet opening period but came to life when it mattered the most to send their resilient and passionate supporters home with a smile. It looked like Hyderabad had the game in the bag with three minutes remaining on the clock but the Lucknow captain was determined to get his team over the line.

Trailing 22-20 in the closing stages of the match, Tomar decided to lead from the front and picked up a swift touch point to cut the lead down to just a point. He then executed another successful raid to send Hyderabad’s Vishal Bhardwaj to the bench before killing off the contest in Lucknow’s last raid of the match with two touch points that put the game beyond the Titans’ reach.
