Pawan Sehrawat remains the most expensive player in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League after being bought by Telugu Titans for ₹2.605 crores ahead of Season 10.
When Rakesh Kumar was bought by Patna Pirates for the inaugural season of Pro Kabaddi in 2014, he went for the highest price tag amongst the lot - fetching a sum of ₹12.80 lakhs.
After all, Rakesh Kumar was once the vice-captain of the Indian national kabaddi team and an Arjuna Award winner.
Fast forward four years, and the ₹12.80 lakhs pales in comparison to what Pro Kabaddi stars started earning with the league.
By Season 4, the maximum price had shot up to ₹53 lakhs (Mohit Chhillar to Bengaluru Bulls) and nearly doubled to ₹93 lakhs by Season 5 (Nitin Tomar to U.P. Yoddhas).
Iran's Fazel Atrachali was the first PKL player to fetch a price of ₹1 crore when the Iranian defender was bought by U Mumba for Season 6.
Pardeep Narwal then held the record of being Pro Kabaddi's highest-paid player when he was bought for ₹1.65 crore by UP Yoddhas for Season 8.
However, in the player auction for Season 9, Pawan Sehrawat broke that record for ₹2.26 crore when Tamil Thalaivas relentlessly bid for him.
Pawan Sehrawat would once again break his own record as the most expensive player at the Season 10 player auction when Telugu Titans purchased him for ₹2.605 crores.
The Season 10 player auction also saw Iranian all-rounder Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh surpass the 2-crore mark courtesy of a ₹2.35 crore bid from Puneri Paltan.
Meanwhile, the Season 11 player auction witnessed two players go beyond the 2-crore mark as Sachin was bought by Tamil Thalaivas for ₹2.15 crore, while Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh was roped in by Haryana Steelers for ₹2.07 crore.
The Season 12 player auction created history as it saw 10 players cross the ₹1 crore mark for the first time ever in PKL history. Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh became the first player to command over ₹2 crores in three consecutive seasons when Gujarat Giants snapped him up for ₹2.23 crores in the very first bid of the auction. Joining him in the exclusive 2-crore club was Devank Dalal, PKL 11's Best Raider, who was acquired by Bengal Warriorz for ₹2.205 crores.
Overall, the 2-crore mark has been breached eight times in PKL history with Pawan Sehrawat doing so twice and Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh doing so thrice.
Raiders Sachin and Maninder Singh are the other two players to have gone beyond the 2-crore mark in PKL.
