Kabaddi fever has taken over Mumbai in the last few days, and this past Monday it was the turn of young kabaddi heroes from the KBD Juniors, an invitation-based kabaddi tournament, to take the mat at the Dome@NSCI SVP Stadium. Top schools from Mumbai competed to win the coveted KBD Juniors title but in the end it was Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal School who lifted the trophy with a brilliant all-round display.

The youngsters were watched and spurred on by their teachers, principals, families and friends who had come to support them in hordes. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal School displayed great form right from the start and reached the final without much fuss, contrary to their opponents in the title showdown, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, who had to fight hard for their wins. As expected, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal School ran away to a 33-7 win.

However, looking at the larger picture it was the sport of kabaddi that won as the audience got the opportunity to witness some scintillating raids and tackles and Mumbai got a glimpse of their future kabaddi stars. A STAR India spokesperson summed up the initiative with great enthusiasm. "KBD Juniors is our endeavour to take kabaddi to every nook of India. The response received so far from Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and now with the Mumbai leg coming to an end is overwhelming. We hope to inspire millions of kids to start playing kabaddi."

KBD Juniors now moves onto Kolkata where eight more schools will fight it out for the crown.
