A dogged defensive effort and 12 raid points from Meetu helped Haryana Steelers beat the Telugu Titans 39-37 on Tuesday. Titans’ Siddharth Desai and Ankit Beniwal scored a combined 18 points in their team’s narrow loss.

The Steelers got off to a strong start and raced to a 5-2 lead. But the Titans responded with four unanswered points to take the lead. Telugu reduced Haryana down to three, but a Super Tackle and a two-point raid from Meetu pushed the Steelers back into the lead.

With the momentum on their side, the Steelers reduced the Titans down to three. Telugu responded with a Super Tackle, but Haryana wasn’t to be denied, as their defence stepped up and their raiders continued their excellent work to inflict the game’s first All Out.

Rohit Gulia joined in on the act and pushed his team’s lead up to seven, but Siddharth Desai put the Titans on his back and helped them outscore the Steelers 6-3 in the final few minutes of the first half. That ensured the Titans went into the halftime break trailing by four points.

Meetu and the Steelers’ defence continued their stellar work in the second half and soon reduced the Titans to two players on the mat. The young raider and Surender Nada took care of the final two Titans players on the mat to help their side inflict a second All Out and take a 10-point lead.

Substitute Ankit Beniwal came off the bench to spark life into his team, scoring eight quick points to cut his team’s deficit to five. Telugu’s defence finally managed to pin down Mahender and cut the Steelers’ lead further.

The Titans fought valiantly in the final two minutes to bring parity to the scoreline, but the Steelers managed the clock well to ensure they won by two points.
