The Haryana leg got off to a thrilling start courtesy of a tantalising 41-41 tie between Haryana Steelers and Patna Pirates at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports in Sonepat on Friday. The encounter once appeared beyond the grasp of Patna, however, late shows from Pardeep Narwal and Monu Goyat earned the double defending champions a tie.

Goyat, who ended the match with 11 points, played a vital role for the Pirates. His game-changing super raid acted as a catalyst for Patna’s comeback and it was also his bonus point right at the finish that helped his team earn a tie.

Eight of Goyat’s 14 raids ended in success and he was tackled on only three occasions. His seven touch points and four bonus points were crucial for the Pirates but none more so than the bonus point he earned for his team in the penultimate raid of the game.
