Sonu stars as Gujarat Fortunegiants end their campaign on a high

Gujarat Fortunegiants scripted a stunning second half comeback to beat Telugu Titans by a 48-38 scoreline.

Gujarat Fortunegiants finished their vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 campaign on a high after a 48-38 win against Telugu Titans at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida on Monday. Sonu was their star raider on the night and finished the match with a game-high 17 raid points.

Sonu Jaglan scored a career-high 17 raid points against Telugu Titans

Telugu Titans started brightly but a Super Raid by More GB robbed them of some early momentum. Unfazed, Siddharth Desai responded with a two-point raid to get his side’s nose in front again before they drove home their advantage by inflicting an All-Out to take a 12-5 lead with seven minutes played. They continued to dominate after the reset with Gujarat Fortunegiants finding it difficult to tackle or raid with any success.

The two-time finalists finally managed to execute a few successful tackles as the first half winded down, but Telugu Titans’ defence was also looking sharp and refused to give an inch to Gujarat Fortunegiants’ raiders. As a result, Telugu Titans had extended their advantage to 21-13 at halftime despite having fewer men on the mat going into the break.

Siddharth Desai scored 13 raid points and completed 200 points for the season.

Gujarat Fortunegiants began the second half brightly owing to a successful tackle by Pankaj that was followed by a two-point raid Sonu. Another successful tackle by Parvesh Bhainswal in the subsequent raid led to Gujarat Fortunegiants enforcing an All-Out and reducing the deficit to just three points. Telugu Titans’ lead was then wiped out five minutes into the second period courtesy of another two-point raid by Sonu.

However, Telugu Titans conjured a strong response through substitute Palle Mallikarjun, who made quite an impression after coming on initially on both ends of the mat. Consecutive successful raids by More GB and Rohit Gulia helped Gujarat Fortunegiants enforce another All-Out and gave Manpreet Singh’s men a 32-30 lead with a little over six minutes to play.

A four-point Super Raid by Sonu opened up a lead for Gujarat Fortunegiants to protect going into the last four and a half minutes of the contest. Siddharth tried his best to drag his team back into the match in the closing stages, but some more stellar raiding by Sonu helped inflict another All-Out on Telugu Titans as Gujarat Fortunegiants eventually emerged victorious by 10 points.
