A scintillating second-half display from Haryana Steelers handed them a 43-32 win over home team Patna Pirates at the Patliputra Indoor Stadium in Patna on Sunday. Haryana Steelers outscored their opponents 26-17 in the second half to win their third game in Season 6 of VIVO Pro Kabaddi.

Patna Pirates captain Pardeep Narwal became only the second player ever to reach 700 raid points in VIVO Pro Kabaddi in just the first raid of the match. He also scored the first five raid points that Patna Pirates managed in the match. While Narwal kept the scoreboard ticking for his team, Haryana Steelers kept chipping away with points themselves to keep parity. Naveen had a bright start to the game picking up a bonus and following it up with a touch point on Vijay in a tight contest.

With the score at 6-6, Haryana Steelers’ defence was reduced to just three; but that meant the Super Tackle was on and Kuldeep Singh took full advantage by tackling Narwal, swinging the momentum back towards his team. With the score at 12-10 in Haryana Steelers’ favour, Vikash Khandola got two straight points and Sachin Shingade followed it up with a tackle as Haryana Steelers took a five-point lead in the game. But Patna Pirates scored five of the next seven points in the match to reduce Haryana Steelers down to just two players as the clock expired with the score reading 17-15 in Haryana Steelers’ favour.

Haryana Steelers showed nerves of steel in the opening exchanges of the second half. The platform of their turnaround was laid by Kuldeep Singh’s Super Tackle on Narwal and was then built on by Khandola and Shingade, sending all but two Patna Pirates men to the bench.

Khandola then got the final two men on the mat, inflicting an All-Out on Patna Pirates and helping his team take a 28-20 lead in the match.

Haryana Steelers continued backing Patna Pirates into a corner from there as Naveen got a Super Raid right after the team revival, sending three players to the bench. He followed that up with a tackle on Manjeet while Kuldeep Singh tackled Narwal yet again, leaving only one Patna Pirates player on the mat.  The second All-Out of the second half was inflicted on Patna Pirates soon after as the scoreline read 38-23 in Haryana Steelers’ favour.

With just over six minutes left in the match, Haryana Steelers’ defence decided to bank on their 15-point lead, trusting their raiders to keep the scoreboard ticking.
