Guman Singh’s 13-point night and Shubham Shinde’s brilliant defensive display in the second half helped the Patna Pirates beat the Puneri Paltan 43-26. The Pirates’ victory saw them extend their lead to 10 points at the top of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League points table.

Early in the game, the Pirates threatened to pull away on the scoreboard as they built a 3-1 lead, but the Paltan embarked in a 3-1 run of their own to level the scores. Pune then added five unanswered points to their total, as Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat showcased their class to leave the Pirates on the brink of an All Out.

In the subsequent raid, the Paltan’s defence pinned down Sachin, but the raider had stepped out of bounds before getting a touch, rendering him, and the four Pune defenders who entered the lobby with him, out. Buoyed by the stroke of luck, Patna embarked on a 3-1 run to reduce Pune to a solitary man. The Pirates picked up an easy touch point to inflict the game’s first All Out to take a 13-11 lead.

A Super Raid from Guman pushed the Pirates’ lead up to five, but right at the stroke of halftime, Inamdar produced a four-point Super Raid of his own to help Pune go into the break trailing by just one point.

The Pirates began the second half with two unanswered points to extend their lead to three. A two-point raid from Guman helped Patna put some daylight between the Paltan and themselves on the scoreboard.

Guman and Sachin added two more touch points to the Pirates’ tally and reduced the Paltan to just a couple of players on the mat. Mohammadreza Chiyaneh’s awe-inspiring tackle on Tomar left the Paltan with a solitary man on the mat and the Pirates picked up an easy touch point in the subsequent raid to inflict another All Out on Pune and take a seven-point lead.

Post the reset, the Pirates continued to pile the points on the scoreboard, as they embarked on a 5-2 run to push their lead up to 10. Mohammadreza’s third tackle point and Guman’s 13th raid point of the night left the Paltan with just two men on the mat, and Sachin took care of both in the same raid to inflict another All Out on Pune and extend Patna’s advantage to 12 points.

The Pirates added one more point to their total before the final whistle and registered another big win to take their score difference past the 100-point mark.
