The city of Chennai saw junior kabaddi champions from eight schools square off on Sunday as KBD Juniors got underway at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. In the end, Jeppiaar School beat Shri Niketan School 26-22 in the final to take the trophy.

Jeppiaar School also overcame Chinmaya Vidyalaya in the semi-final, while Shri Niketan School went past Kanagi Nagar School in the other semi-final encounter.

The young guns of the sport entertained the crowd - consisting mainly of the parents, teachers and school staff of the participating schools - with some scintillating kabaddi as they raided and tackled with great skills. The thunderous applause they were given in every match was proof of the support the sport enjoyed in the city.

With the support for India’s own sport growing throughout the nation, KBD Juniors gave these future stars the opportunity to play on an international-standard mat and replicate the feats of their heroes Ajay Thakur, Amit Hooda and others from Tamil Thalaivas, the representatives from Chennai in VIVO Pro Kabaddi.

With Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Sonepat, Ranchi, Delhi and now Chennai done and dusted, KBD Juniors next moves to Jaipur where eight more schools will lock horns in a quest to be crowned champions.
