Puneri Paltan have appointed Ashan Kumar as their new coach for Season 6 of VIVO Pro Kabaddi, taking over the reins from BC Ramesh, who saw the team through Season 5.

The Arujna Award-winning Kumar comes with a good track record both as a player and a coach. He is also a Grade A diploma holder in kabaddi coaching from National Institute of Sports.

In Season 5, the team had managed to reach the Playoffs and this year they will be looking to do one better under their new coach.

The squad has retained their core in Sandeep Narwal, Rajesh Mondal, More GB and Girish Maruti Ernak and Puneri Paltan CEO Kailash Kandpal said that Kumar’s experience will help the team towards their goal of creating a dynamic squad this season.

“We are looking at building a dynamic squad and wanted a coach who has got varied experience across teams,” said Kandpal, “Ashan Kumar, appointed as a coach for Season 6, has worked with international and national teams. With a proven track record with these teams, he is excited and eager to prove himself in the VIVO Pro Kabaddi format. We are banking on his experience and strategic inputs to help us clinch the title this season.”

Kumar himself praised the performance of the Paltan in VIVO Pro Kabaddi so far and was confident that he would be able to add value to the team as their new coach.

“I am delighted to be a part of Puneri Paltan which has been inching higher and higher, season after season, and I intend to enhance the performance of the team in the upcoming season of PKL,” he said
