The 36th National Games witnessed some thrilling kabaddi action as vivo Pro Kabaddi players starred for their respective teams at Transtadia in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The kabaddi event took place from September 26 to October 1 with teams competing in both the men’s and women’s events. The final of the men’s and women’s events were won by Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh respectively in what were hardfought contests.

Most of the matches over the course of the tournament were, in fact, hard fought clashes where vivo Pro Kabaddi stars stepped up by showing their class and experience. The four semi-finalists in the men’s category were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Services and Haryana, while Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana and Tamil Nadu were the final four in the women’s division. In the women’s semi-finals, Maharashtra clinched a convincing 45-25 win against Tamil Nadu whereas Himachal Pradesh won a cliffhanger by a scoreline of 28-27 against Haryana.

The semi-finals in the men’s category saw Maharashtra beat Haryana 39-35 and Uttar Pradesh defeated Services 43-27. Nitin Tomar, who will be representing U.P. Yoddhas in the upcoming vivo PKL season and has played 86 matches in the league, made a crucial contribution for Uttar Pradesh in their semi-final match to get the better of Services. Abhishek Singh, who will represent Telugu Titans in Season 9, also chipped in for Uttar Pradesh in their semi-final win.

Meanwhile, one of vivo Pro Kabaddi’s rising stars Aslam Inamdar, who will continue with Puneri Paltan in the upcoming campaign, played a major role in Maharashtra’s win over Haryana in their semi-final. After a fine debut vivo PKL season last year which saw him score 169 raid points, Aslam Inamdar will be eager to carry his fine form from the National Games into Season 9.

In the all-important final which was played on October 1, Rahul Chaudhari who is a part of Jaipur Pink Panthers in vivo PKL, led Uttar Pradesh from the front and held his nerve in the closing stages of the match to pick up some crucial points and lead his team to the 36th National Games title.

The 36th National Games served as perfect preparation for Season 9 of vivo Pro Kabaddi as players gained some match fitness and sharpness while entertaining the crowds in Ahmedabad. The first match of the new vivo PKL season will witness Dabang Delhi K.C. squaring off against U Mumba at the Shree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru on October 7th.
