Tamil Thalaivas had a dismal Season 8 as they completed their campaign at the second-last position on the league points table. The team management came up with a strategy to get the leading raider of the previous season on their side and they roped in Pawan Sehrawat by spending more than half of their total salary purse (₹2.26 crores). Their coach, J Udayakumar will expect him to fire all cylinders and groom the youngsters on their side.

Power-packed Pawan

Pawan Sehrawat has been one of the superstars of vivo Pro Kabaddi. He is a class apart in the raiding department and can change the course of the game single-handedly. He is not just a brilliant raider but can contribute handsomely when it comes to defensive duties. He will be expected to perform multiple roles for his side, and it would be interesting to see how that turns out to be for the Hi-Flyer.

Ajinkya Pawar has shown his calibre and has featured in three seasons so far. He was associated with Tamil Thalaivas even in Season 8 and scored 108 raid points in the 18 matches that he played. The raider will look to live up to the billing and play as the second fiddle to Pawan. Therefore, he will have additional responsibility on his shoulders as the team would expect him to revive their strike raider, Pawan whenever he will be off the mat.

Sagar - A star in the making

The Thalaivas don’t just have the top raider from the past season on their side, but they also have the second-best defender of Season 8, Sagar in their line-up. The right-corner made his vivo PKL debut in the year 2019 and has been with the team for two seasons. He stood tall as a defensive wall for the Tamil Nadu-based franchise and earned 82 tackle points in 22 matches comprising 8 High-5s and as many Super Tackles.

To add balance to the roster, the management opted to pick Sri Lankan player Thanushan Laxmamohan who will be looking ahead to making his debut in the league. Their other foreign pick was Md. Arif Rabbani from Bangladesh who, at the left-corner will be an added boost. Both the overseas imports were bought for ₹ 10 Lakh each.

Other than Sagar, they have backed defenders like M. Abishek, Himanshu, Aashish, Mohit and Sahil Gulia by retaining them on their side. The team will look to get their formation right in the initial matches of the tournament and the youngsters will look to take some inspiration from their most experienced campaigner, Pawan Sehrawat.

To make it to the playoffs for the first time, the management has high hopes for Pawan, and one can expect him to do most of the raiding for the team. The focus of the players would be to keep the star raider on the mat and keep the momentum going when they get an opportunity to showcase their skills.
