How Rohit finally met his idol Akshay Kumar

The joy and excitement on Rohit Kumar’s face was evident at the opening ceremony of VIVO Pro Kabaddi last Friday. His lifelong dream was about to come true. He would finally get to meet his idol Akshay Kumar.

The star raider from Bengaluru Bulls has been a huge Akshay Kumar fan for as long as he can remember. In an exclusive interview to prokabaddi.com, Rohit was effusive in his adulation of the Bollywood star. “I have been an Akshay Kumar fan since childhood. I used to watch his movies and dreamed of one day becoming like him. He inspired me because he is also a sportsperson and so fit. He has made a huge name for himself in Bollywood and I want to do the same in kabaddi,” he said.

He is such a big fan that he even wears a jersey with the name “Akki” written on it while playing. Another thing that this youngster has picked up from the actor is his spiritual side. “I always think of him when I enter the mat. During ‘Khatron ke Khiladi’ he had mentioned that he always recites the Gayatri Mantra before starting anything new. The same way I recite the mantra when I enter the field of play,” revealed Rohit.

There is more! While playing a tournament in Delhi as a young kabaddi aspirant, the raider decided to get a tattoo of the movie star on his arm to show his love for the actor. Rohit went back in time to recollect the incident. “It was almost 5-6 years ago, much before VIVO Pro Kabaddi started,” he recalls, “If it were up to me, I would have got this tattoo much before but I had neither the money nor the opportunity. Also, my parents would never let me do it. However, during a tournament in Delhi I spotted a tattoo parlour near the venue and I couldn’t stop myself. I always wanted to have an Akshay Kumar tattoo, so right after the match I got this.”

Akshay Kumar made a special appearance at the opening ceremony of VIVO Pro Kabaddi where he sang the national anthem. Seeing his favourite actor in real life in itself was thrilling for the young man but later he even got to meet Akshay up close at the team hotel in what was an extremely emotional moment for Rohit. His happiness can be seen overflowing in this post he put up on Instagram with the caption “Tears of joy have never been sweeter”

The two spent some time in conversation together and the raider was all praise for his idol on the social media platform. 

After that rendezvous, a couple of days later, the icing on the cake came when the Bulls got their campaign off to a flier with an easy win over Telugu Titans with Rohit providing the star-turn. These are definitely good times for the Bulls captain!
