With nothing but pride at stake, Bengal Warriors produced a memorable performance to notch a resounding 31-27 victory over U Mumba. Jang Kun Lee and Monu Goyat scored 14 between them to lead their team to an impressive win. U Mumba’s woeful defensive performance was the main reason for their downfall as they scored just three tackle points in front of their boisterous home support which went back disappointed.

The defeat could have a massive impact on U Mumba’s hopes of qualifying for the semi finals as they now have 36 points from 12 games. Bengal Warriors climbed out of the basement and are now seventh with 26 points from 13 games.

Rakesh Kumar scored in the first minute and U Mumba forced a tackle to lead 2-0 after two minutes. Jang Kun Lee scored two points as Bengal Warriors trailed 2-3 after five minutes. Bengal Warriors’ defence scored their first point in eight minute to level the game at 3-3.


Rakesh Kumar scored his second raid point in the 11th minute as U Mumba led 6-5. Bengal Warriors scored a tackle and raid point in the next minute to lead 7-6. In what was shaping to be a close contest, both teams were tied at 8-8 after 16 minutes. Jang Kun Lee and Rakesh Kumar exchanged raid points as it was level at 9-9 after 18 minutes. Jang Kun Lee scored four raid points as Bengal Warriors 11-9 at the end of the first half.

Monu Goyat scored a raid point in 21st and Nitin Kumar did it in the next minute as Bengal Warriors led 12-10. Jang Kun Lee then scored two raid points and forced an all out as Bengal Warriors led 16-10 after 23 minutes. It was U Mumba’s defence that was letting them down and scored just two points in 26 minutes as they trailed 12-17.

With 31 minutes gone, Bengal Warriors opened a nine-point gap to lead 22-13 as U Mumba’s defence continued to struggle. Bengal Warriors inflicted the second all out of the match in 33rd minute to lead 26-15. Jang Kun Lee scored his seventh raid point in the 35th minute as Bengal Warriors led 28-17. Rishank Devadiga scored two points for U Mumba as they trailed 21-31 after 28 minutes.

In the last minute U Mumba restored some semblance to the scoreline as they inflicted an all out to cut the deficit to five points. However, Bengal Warriors were fully deserving of their 31-27 win as they dominated U Mumba for large parts of the game.
